Now that Module 2 is nearing its end, let’s take this opportunity to relax with some shopping and comfort food! Since COVID-19, most of the minority-owned businesses in Lancaster were largely shut out of Pennsylvania’s First Coronavirus Loan Program. So if you have time, take a chance and look at the following shops globally and in Pennsylvania! Remember, if you are going somewhere to shop, wear your mask!


In Lancaster:

Food:

Cocina Mexicana

This gem is in Downtown Lancaster on North Water St. Not only do they make their food from scratch, but they also use the freshest ingredients possible! Order on Grubhub or Door Dash now!

El Pueblito

This gem is only a few blocks away from F&M! El Pueblito is a Mexican grocery store and restaurant. Take a look at its extensive menu and grocery offerings!

Check out these HOT spots in Philadelphia!

Centro Musical

Centro Musical has a 50-year history in Philadelphia where they sell a variety of instruments, Latin music, souvenirs, and more. It is owned by third-generation owner Cristina Gonzales and is a way to learn the roots of Latinx music. Taller has served as a community leader within the Latinx community in Philadelphia for 45 years. They consist of an in house art gallery and performances that explore Latinx culture through storytelling. The gallery space has now reopened so check it out if you have a weekend to spare!

Queen and Rook Board Game Cafe

Who loves board games? It’s a restaurant and board game cafe! Due to Covid, some amenities are closed. However, they still offer games to be played in their outside seating area! Go with some friends and play a board game!

Beautyblender

For all my people into makeup, you may have seen this teardrop shaped makeup brush before, but did you know that it was invented by the Latinx makeup artist Rea Ann Silva? As the founder and CEO of Beautyblender, Rea’s invention has become a staple in the makeup industry.

Hause of Curls

This business was founded by Domincan stylist Sherly Tavarez. They sell merch and hair accessories to have people take pride in their curls and to get rid of the idea of “pelo malo”.

Shop Latinx

Made by Brittany Chavez, Shop Latinx started as an instagram page that highlighted Latinx business in 2016. In 2017, It became a database with hundreds of registered Latinx businesses. And now, just launching last November, Shop Latinx is an e-commerce marketplace for many latinx businesses.

Afro Latinx Businesses:

Cafe Con Libros

This feminits bookstore and coffee shop is located in Brooklyn, New York, Founded by Kalima DeSuze, this space highlights Afro-Latinx identities with their selection of readings and programming.

Take a chance to look at the local Latinx small businesses around you! COVID-19 has made it difficult for them to operate and sustain themselves. Support local businesses and remember to wear a mask when shopping or eating outside! Also, don’t forget about other online latinx businesses that are doing their best to provide a service for the latinx community.
